As an incubator of a new to be built Design Center, Platform21 has developed Supermaker. Supermaker is a laboratory centred around the revaluation of making, the pleasure of making, and the spectacle of making. Here, co-creation projects, workshops and worklabs as well as exhibitions, lectures and debates can take place. Like Platform21, Supermaker will be programmed thematically and will focus on activities in which everyday topics will be addressed in a mobilizing, inspiring way to help us understand our changing world and make it a better place. Curiosity will be rewarded, and a critical attitude will be welcome.

Supermaker’s programming will be developed with a variety of partners. They will strengthen specific parts of Supermaker with their expertise and relationships. A partner strategy based on a shared vision and mentality. Several businesses and cultural and knowledge institutions have already expressed their wish to join Supermaker as partners when it would start. Architect Lars Spuybroek of NOX has already designed us a pavilion, Supermaker_Dock. It encompasses 800 square metres of space, 600 of which will be occupied by the central construction. The design is based on the legendary architect Cedric Price’s <a href="http://www.interactivearchitecture.org/fun-palace-cedric-price.html">Fun Palace</a>, a concept in which the building’s use is inseparable from its construction. This 'Building=Making' principle is also applied in the Supermaker_Dock. In our design centre, the design and production ('making') process will be as important as its result, and this making process will never come to a standstill. Their use can be adapted through connecting them to each other or connecting them to the central building element in a different way. Thus, a studio can be transformed into an exhibition space, a kitchen into a shop, and so on. Furthermore, new pods can be added. We consider this to be the perfect translation of co-creation and growth into the language of architecture. If Supermaker_Dock will ever be built or if Supermaker as a concept will ever be adopted by a cultural or commercial institution is something the future will tell. Als incubator voor een nieuw te bouwen Designcentrum ontwikkelde Platform21 Supermaker. Supermaker is een laboratorium waar de herwaardering van het maken, het plezier in het maken én het spektakel van het maken centraal staan. Co-creatie projecten, workshops en worklabs, maar ook tentoonstellingen, lezingen en debatten kunnen hier worden georganiseerd. Net als Platform21 kent Supermaker een thematische programmering waar alledaagse onderwerpen op een mobiliserende en activerende wijze worden ingezet om een veranderende wereld te begrijpen en te verbeteren. Waar nieuwsgierigheid wordt beloond en een kritische houding welkom is.

De programmering van Supermaker zal worden ontwikkeld met verschillende partners. Zij zijn inhoudelijk betrokken en versterken specifieke onderdelen van Supermaker met hun kennis en relaties. Een samenwerking op basis van gedeelde mentaliteit en ideeën. Inmiddels hebben al diverse bedrijven, cultuur- en kennisinstellingen toegezegd zich op deze wijze als partner aan Supermaker te willen binden wanneer er wordt begonnen. Architect Lars Spuybroek van NOX heeft alvast een paviljoen voor ons ontworpen: Supermaker_DOCK. Het Supermaker_Dock omvat 800 vierkante meter, waarvan 600 m2 wordt beslagen door de centrale constructie. Het ontwerp is gebaseerd op het <a href="http://www.interactivearchitecture.org/fun-palace-cedric-price.html">Fun Palace</a> van de legendarische architect Cedric Price, een concept waarbij inhoud gelijk staat aan de constructie. Dit 'Building=Making'-principe is ook toegepast op het Supermaker_Dock. Het proces van ontwerp en productie ('maken') is in het designcentrum even belangrijk als het resultaat en dit maakproces is dan ook nooit af. Hun programma kan worden aangepast door ze met elkaar te verbinden of ze op een andere wijze aan te sluiten op het centrale bouwdeel. Zo kan een atelierruimte worden veranderd in een expositiezaal, een keuken in een winkel, enzovoort. Ook kunnen nieuwe pods worden toegevoegd. Wat ons betreft is dit een prachtige vertaling van co-creatie en groei in architectuur. In between the many images and newspaper clippings covering the walls of our office are post-its with strange words that pop up every now and then. From change agent to don't forget the slipstream!. Tussen de vele beelden en krantenartikelen die de wanden van onze werkruimte bekleden, hangen post-its met vreemde woorden of zinnen die zo nu en dan opkomen. Van 'change agent' tot 'don't forget the slipstream!'.
