Make your own design out of it with a small alteration or perpetrate an out-and-out hack that gives the object a whole different function. This contest was part of the programme Platform21 = Hacking IKEA in Amsterdam. The winning design will be exhibited at the 2009 Montreal Biennial, of which Platform21 = Hacking IKEA will be part. Dit kan bijvoorbeeld door de instructies van de 'flatpack' opzettelijk niet te volgen en te husselen. Wat krijg je dan voor meubel? Let op: De wedstrijd is gesloten en de winnaars zijn bekend gemaakt. Je kunt dus niet meer meedoen.

Trash-to-Treasure IKEA echt hacken, betekent ook het hacken van de ideologische basis waar het functioneren van het bedrijf op is gebouwd. Producten zijn goedkoop en niet gemaakt om heel lang mee te gaan. Hacken dus die principes! Elke avond als het grofvuil op straat wordt gezet, is het onvermijdelijk daar allerlei afgedankt IKEA meubilair tussen te zien. Gooi je IKEA producten niet weg, maar maak er iets nieuws van! On Sunday 21 September <a href="http://www.platform21.nl/page/3602/nl">Eric Von Robertson</a> engaged the public, IKEA hackers and several hundred orange umbrellas in some public space hacking around Platform21 and the nearby Beatrixpark. A Sunday adventure in which enthusiasts had to collaborate: the ingredients of the Sunday Adventure Club.

The Sunday Adventure Club is a temporary club of urban pioneers: citizens who through their personal passions have initiated activities in public space. The Sunday Adventure Club explored the Amsterdam's dense city centre, looking for unloved plots of land. Some were successfully claimed and are now temporarily occupied by local clubs of enthusiasts. The others remain unused and are still open for your adventures. ExperimentaDesign invites you to join the unexpected and unregulated at the Sunday Adventure Club! Op zondag 21 september hackte <a href="http://www.platform21.nl/page/3602/nl">Eric Von Robertson</a> samen met publiek en andere IKEA hackers zo'n honderd oranje IKEA paraplu's rond Platform21 en het tegenover gelegen Beatrixpark. Een zondags avontuur waar publieke ruimte op een andere manier gebruikt werd en samengewerkt moest worden: de ingrediënten van de Sunday Adventure Club.

De Sunday Adventure Club is een tijdelijke club van stedelijke pioniers: inwoners die vanuit hun persoonlijke passie verschillende activiteiten in de publieke ruimte hebben geïnitieerd. De Sunday Adventure Club ging op verkenning in het volgebouwde centrum van Amsterdam, op zoek naar ongebruikte stukjes land. Verschillende landjes werden 'geclaimd' en zijn nu tijdelijk bezet door lokale clubs van enthousiastelingen. De resterende landjes blijven ongebruikt en kunnen nog zijn dus nog steeds beschikbaar voor het naleven van jouw eigen avonturen. Besides a lot of inspiration and information Platform21 = Repairing also offers several repair units where you can Repair It Yourself.

As for this Friday, Saturday and Sunday you can mend the holes in your sweater in a beautiful way with the wool filler of Heleen Klopper and darn socks with the help of Nienke Sybrandy and Eva Heisterkamp's instructions. Give your ceramic or plastic doll new limbs as inspired by the work of Jan Vormann, or try out one of the improvisation repair kits by buro buurvrouw. Just using duct tape for your repair is also possible; we have a rainbow of colours in stock. In the DREMEL repair station you will find the right tools for a lot of different repairs. Dremel is a multifunctional tool that makes repairing child's play: grinding, drilling, polishing and sanding are done in a trice. The Adobe clay wallpaper station in the middle of the space is a new addition. The station consists of two walls made of loam. Because the loam keeps cracking, the walls are in constant need of repair. We invite you to repair one of the cracks during your visit and document the ingredients you use well. We are curious to see if new and beautiful techniques will result from this experiment. Platform21 now offers a solution for broken china: the new repair technique Bison kintsugi. Designer Lotte Dekker developed a new view of gluing porcelain based on kintsugi, an old Japanese technique in which porcelain is repaired with gold leaf. It’s an extremely time-consuming, expensive method. Dekker found Bison glue to be the perfect Western variant for making beautiful yet simple repairs. Discover the beauty of messy mending. Naast veel inspiratie en informatie biedt Platform21 = Repairing ook verschillende reparatie units waar je zelf aan de slag kunt.

Deze vrijdag, zaterdag en zondag kun je op prachtige wijze gaten in je wollen trui dichten met de wolplamuur van Heleen Klopper, of sokken stoppen aan de hand van de instructies van Nienke Sybrandy en Eva Heisterkamp. In het DREMEL station kun je terecht voor reparaties voor van alles en nog wat. Een Dremel is een multifunctioneel gereedschap dat repareren een fluitje van een cent maakt: slijpen, boren, polijsten en schuren doe je in een handomdraai. Er is een heel assortiment aanwezig, dus experimenteer naar hartenlust met dit apparaatje. Ook biedt dit station uitkomst voor kapotte poppen, robots en kleine beeldjes die je herstelt door ze nieuwe ledematen te geven. Deze zitten in de 'body part bags' geïnspireerd op het werk van beeldend kunstenaar Jan Vormann. Met een collectie gereedschap waaronder naast de Dremels, klei, LEGO, bladgoud, zeeschelpen en allerlei spatels en raspen kun je direct aan de slag. Toch de juiste techniek niet gevonden? Dan biedt een van de improvisatie repair kits van buro buurvrouw wellicht een oplossing. Gewoon duct tape gebruiken voor je reparatie kan uiteraard ook; we hebben een regenboog aan kleuren op voorraad. Verder leer je handige trucs uit de skatescene om schoenen te repareren en is er een station waar we experimenteren met reparaties aan ruiten. Nieuw is het Adobe kleibehang station in het midden van de ruimte. Hier staan twee muurtjes van leem. Doordat er barsten ontstaan in de klei, moeten de muren telkens gerepareerd worden. En daar houden wij van. We nodigen je uit tijdens je bezoek een barst te repareren en goed bij te houden welke ingrediënten je hiervoor gebruikt. We zijn vooral benieuwd of er nieuwe mooie technieken ontstaan. Platform21 biedt nu ook een oplossing voor gebroken servies met nieuwe reparatietechniek Bison Kintsugi. Ontwerper Lotte Dekker ontwikkelde een andere kijk op het lijmen van porselein gebaseerd op Kintsugi, een oude Japanse techniek waarbij porselein wordt gerepareerd met bladgoud. Een zeer bewerkelijke en kostbare methode. In Bison lijm ontdekte zij de perfecte Westerse variant voor prachtige maar simpele reparaties. De schoonheid van slordig repareren. The exhibition space in the circular chapel has been set up as a repair studio, with work tables, tools and materials. It’s a setting where plenty of wrecked, broken things can be fixed. This is confirmed by the fact that Platform21 has been invited to present Hacking IKEA during the Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven from Sunday 19 to Sunday 26 October. With an adjusted version we also want to inspire the south of the country to look at standard IKEA products in new ways. Visitors to AutoRAI who get lured into buying a new car shouldn't expect to be able to tinker with it. Today things are different from how they used to be. All too often, a problem with your car can be traced to a problem in its electronic system. The on-board computer monitors things and lets you know when a visit to the garage is necessary. We say ‘necessary’ because these aren’t problems you can solve through DIY. Is this progress, or a step backward?

Tonight's speakers would probably say a step backwards. They love their car so much, it's been patched up numerous times. During this evening programme centred around the passion for car repair, they share their repair success stories and knowledge. Niek Vervoort is a repairman affiliated with the DAF club, which was started to maintain all vehicles that are variomatically driven. Sharing knowledge plays an imporatant role in keeping these cars on the road. Designer Cynthia Hathaway went on a road trip through Central America with her father and his old timer club. She filmed the journey during which reparations were a daily returning challenge. The Dutch Triple A gives tips for quick fixes and Rob van de Bovenkamp shows the best ways in which to repair Dinky Toys. Tonight we also start on fixing a small electronic car, THE BRATT. We invite you to help, so it will be up and running again by the end of the project in August. Casper Thomson will start with welding, so bring your welding glasses! Wie zich tijdens de AutoRAI laat verleiden tot de aanschaf van een nieuwe auto, hoeft niet te verwachten dat er nog wat aan de wagen te sleutelen valt. Ooit kenden we de weg onder de motorkap op ons duimpje; tegenwoordig is een defect aan de auto vaak een defect in het elektronische systeem. Met de boardcomputer als bewaker, waarschuwend wanneer een bezoek aan de garage noodzakelijk wordt. Jawel, noodzakelijk, want zo'n defect is niet aan Doe-Het-Zelvers om op te lossen. Vooruitgang of achteruitgang?

De sprekers van deze avond, die geheel gewijd is aan de passie voor het repareren van auto's, zeggen hoogstwaarschijnlijk achteruitgang. Zij houden zoveel van hun auto dat het ding al vele keren is opgelapt en vanavond delen ze hun reparatieverhalen en -kennis. Niek Vervoort is monteur en aangesloten bij de DAF club. Hij heeft zijn roeping gevonden in het op de weg houden van de variomatic aangedreven voertuigen. Ontwerper Cynthia Hathaway ging op roadtrip door Midden-Amerika met haar vader en zijn oldtimerclub. Ze maakte een film van de reis waar reparaties aan de orde van de dag waren. De ANWB geeft tips voor quick fixes en Rob van de Bovenkamp laat zien wat de beste manier is om Dinky Toys te repareren. Ook wordt deze avond begonnen aan de reparatie van een elektrisch autootje, THE BRATT. We nodigen je uit om te helpen, zodat de brommobiel bij de afsluiting van het project in augustus weer rijdt. A walk through the Beatrixpark will never again be a regular walk when you know you are actually drawing.

In this workshop by Jeremy Wood local residents are asked to walk their favourite route through the Beatrixpark. Recording each walk using a GPS system, Wood visualizes how every route results in a unique drawing. Combining these results in a new map - not showing the beaten tracks, but personal wanderings. Een wandeling door het Beatrixpark is nooit meer een gewone wandeling als je weet dat je eigenlijk aan het tekenen bent.

In deze workshop van Jeremy Wood worden buurtbewoners van het Beatrixpark gevraagd hun favoriete route te lopen. Met een GPS systeem legt Wood hun wandeling vast en maakt zo duidelijk dat elke route een aparte tekening oplevert.
